Senior Energy Systems Consultant

About the Role

Beam Reach Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Energy Systems Consultant who combines strong technical expertise in power or energy systems with excellent communication and facilitation skills. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys translating complex technical concepts into clear insights and practical recommendations for clients.

In this role, you will contribute to and lead projects focused on distributed energy resources, energy storage, grid modernization, and strategic planning. You will serve as a trusted technical advisor to utilities and energy agencies while also helping shape Beam Reach Group’s strategic direction and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to technical analyses, modeling, and assessments involving power systems, distributed energy resources, and energy storage technologies.

  • Serve as a client-facing advisor, helping public power utilities, cooperatives, and energy agencies evaluate options, make informed investment decisions, and implement emerging technologies.

  • Design and facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagements that build understanding and consensus among diverse participants.

  • Develop strategic plans, technology roadmaps, and maturity models that guide clients’ progress toward resilience and decarbonization goals.

  • Author technical reports, guides, and case studies that communicate engineering findings and strategic insights to non-technical audiences.

  • Support business development by contributing to proposal writing, client outreach, and identification of new opportunities aligned with company capabilities.

  • Mentor junior consultants and provide leadership within the firm’s growing energy systems practice.

  • Help inform and influence Beam Reach Group’s strategic direction, drawing on your technical expertise and market awareness.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

  • 10–15 years of relevant professional experience in power systems, energy engineering, or clean energy consulting.

  • Deep understanding of electric power systems, energy storage technologies, renewable integration, and grid modernization trends.

  • Proven ability to communicate technical findings clearly to non-technical audiences through presentations, workshops, and written materials.

  • Experience leading client engagements and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Familiarity with analytical or modeling tools used in energy systems (e.g., ETAP, MATLAB, PowerWorld, Excel-based models, etc.) is desirable.
